Eugene N. Clarke, 68, of Center Street, East Haven passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Masonicare, Wallingford. He was the husband of Joyce A. Burr Clarke. Born in New Haven on February 16, 1943; son of the late Harold and Clara Melillo Clarke. Gene had worked for the U.S. Postal Service in vehicle maintenance for many years until his retirement and had served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gene was an avid golfer and was known for his congenial and fair play. He was a stalworth family man who was sincerely loved by all. Father of Eugene N. Clarke, Jr. and Kenneth R. Clarke both of Pompano Beach, FL, Scott (Marie) Case of West Haven, Chris (Andrea) Case of Killingworth, Billy Chamberlain of MA and Dennis (Sharon) O’Connor of Hamden. Brother of Walter Johnson of East Haven, Claire Kinney of Pompano Beach, FL, Warren Johnson of Sunrise, FL and the late Wesley Johnson and Alice Currey. Also survived by 14 grandchildren. Predeceased by a daughter Jennifer Clarke and a grandson Scott Case, Jr.
Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Saturday morning at 11:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm.
