Anthony “Tony” J. DePaola, 89, of Florida, formerly of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to the late Grace Tirozzi DePaola. Tony was born in New Haven on August 2, 1929 and was the son of the late Peter and Carmel Longobardi DePaola. He served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War and held one of the highest honors serving as Tomb Guard in Arlington National Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Tony was a former Fire Commissioner for the town of North Haven and the co-owner and operator of Dover Auto Body for many years. He was an avid golfer. Tony loved the time he spent at his home in Florida and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends whom he loved unconditionally. Father of Peter DePaola and his wife Ellen. Grandfather of Andrea and Tony DePaola. Brother of Vincent (Florine) DePaola, Anna Quinn, Theresa D’Angelo, Joseph (Nancy) DePaola, Carmel Durant, and the late Peter DePaola. Also survived by his sister-in-law Liz DePaola. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the doctors and staff at MidState Medical Center for their care and compassion.
The visiting hours will be on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:00. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven at 11:30. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. I am so very sorry for your loss. I have so many good memories of Tony. He will be missed.
