I am deeply saddened at the loss of Jim McKenna. This was a person who spent his life always trying to do the right thing. In addition to that, he served his country and community as a soldier and law enforcement officer. He was kind and genuine, and yet with all he was and became, his favorite topic of conversation was his daughter. There is a special place in our hearts, and heaven, for men like James McKenna.

I am truly sorry for his daughter an family. A
loss unimagineable. A life lost too soon. Rest

Jim is someone nobody will ever forget. He’s given my sister and me so many memorable moments with him, Angelina, and his family in the past years. It’s so sad to think that we won’t be able to see his smiling face cheering everyone on at basketball games anymore. It’s so hard to think he’s gone. But we have to remember he is looking down on us everyday and proud of every single one of us. Jim believed in me since day one and always believed in me before anyone else did. He believed in me as a basketball player and as a person and always saw and wanted the best out of everyone. I remember whenever he would see my sister, Maria, and I ever frowning or sad, he would always tell us to smile. It’s because he always wanted to see us happy. This is something I will never forget. I am going to miss Jim McKenna so much and he will forever hold a place in my heart and my family’s hearts!

May God’s great graces and mercies during this time.
You are in our prayers and thoughts.
My heart sank when I learned of Jim’s tragic passing. I had the pleasure of working with him, having met him when I was a captain, and later chief, with the Darien Police Department. Jim was always willing to assist with any issues we had regarding MTA property. Jim was also a regular attendee at the monthly meetings of the Fairfield County Chiefs of Police. Jim was a solid individual, a consummate professional and a pleasure to be around. Easy going conversations always included talk about his daughter – clearly a very proud dad. We’ve lost a very good man. Rest in peace, brother. My deepest condolences to the McKenna family.
Larry and Maureen, and all the McKenna family. My deepest Sympathy for the loss of your son James. You are in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏🙏

I was a conductor for metro-north, and would often see James while working. We spent a lot of time together at Grand Central Station while I was loading my last trains to go home. He was a great guy to know, and I enjoyed the time we spent together. I will carry those memories with me for the rest of my life. Rest in peace Jimmy. My condolences go out to his whole family.

Dear Maureen, Larry, MaryEllen, Larry and Sue,
You are all in our deepest prayers as these very difficult days will be filled with grief and sadness. Jim had an illustrious career and personality. a winning smile and those beautiful twinkling eyes! All of us will always cherish the memories of those great old Kings Highway days, with Jim leading the pack among the neighborhood kids. He was looked up to and respected then, and that never changed. May God give you all the strength to carry this burden, and in time, allow all the beautiful memories to give life to his exalted and permanent legacy.

My condolences to Jim’s family and many friends. I had the pleasure to get to know Jim when we volunteered together at Shawn Mobilio’s Basketball camp. I also would see him at Mohegan Sun while he was working Security when I was working with the Connecticut Sun Basketball team. He was always kind and considerate to me. I will especially pray for his daughter, Angelina. He was truly a GIRLDAD.
A deep heart felt sympathy to you, Larry and your family
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire McKenna family. I was truly heartbroken to hear the tragic news. Memories we shared together as young adults will always stay close to my heart. Rest in peace Jim.
Dear Larry, Maureen and family, my sincere condolences on Jimmy’s passing. I was so lucky to have known him and call him a friend. Of course the common bond of the Irish Club and growing up playing Gaelic Football together, but even more so, we had great talks about life, relationships and kids – he was so proud of Angelina. Jimmy was truly a gentle giant with a heart of gold, he’d give the shirt off his back for you – whether on the field or not. You felt protected when he was around, and I see online here his Army buddies attesting to that. There were many times on the pitch during Gaelic Football games, if someone started with you, the first person there was always Jimmy to protect you and his team – with his brother Larry, the Cullagh cousins and brother in-law Steve right behind him. True sense of pride and integrity to everything he did. I will miss him deeply but will never forget him. May god bless Angelina, Gina, and all the McKenna family during this time. With sympathy and love – John McGowan
May your soul rest peacefully, Jim. My deepest condonlences to all that loved and shared their life with him. I’m grateful for the many times I got to speak with him, share the basketball court with him, and appreciate his fatherly love for Angelina. I prey that she and all who bear the grief that accompanies his passing may find strength, and his presence forever guiding them.
My sincere condolences to the McKenna Family. I worked with Jim at the Police Department, he was a Good man and will be missed.
To the family and friends of James McKenna, I sincerely offer my condolences on this senseless tragedy. I knew Captain McKenna when he was the MTA PD Captain. He helped me all the time when I called him about issues with the Waterbury train. He had a heart to do the right thing. It was quite difficult to just call him Jim, but Captain McKenna was an excellent man. Did a great job. So helpful and kind. I know he truly loved Angelina and bragged about her and showed me pictures all the time. I’m truly sorry about your loss. He was a great man and I know he was loved bu so many people for so many reasons. 🙏🏼💜🇺🇸🙏🏼💜🇺🇸
My heartfelt condolences to the McKenna and Cullagh families on the tragic passing of Jim. He was a beautiful man both inside and out with a kind and caring heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
