Robert Edward Maurer, 84, a lifelong resident of North Haven passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 20, 2014 with his family by his side. He was the husband of V. Jeanne Fredette Maurer. Robert was born in New Haven on November 15, 1929; son of the late Philip J. and Marjorie Smith Maurer; served his country faithfully in the US Air Force and had worked for Union Carbide for many years until his retirement. Robert enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, taking day trips and going to the beach. Father of Katherine (Henry) Tiedemann, Robert (Maureen) Maurer, Jr., David (Lissa) Maurer and Susan Maurer. Also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law of Patricia Maurer. Predeceased by his brother Philip “Pete” Maurer and a sister Lois Melillo.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Wednesday morning at 9:30. A funeral service will be conducted in the North Haven Congregational Church at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Haven Congregational Church Building Fund, 28 Church St., North Haven, CT 06473.
