Hildegard “Hilde” O’Grady, 93, passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice Sunday night the 18th of January 2015. A loving wife, a wonderful mother, a marvelous grandmother, a beautiful soul, Hilde was born in Darmstadt Germany on November 25th 1921 to parents Max and Magdeline Ponath. Hilde moved to Syracuse New York to marry James E. O’Grady in 1948 and start a family. Hilde had been a resident of Hamden, Connecticut since 2008. She was predeceased by husband James E. O’Grady, son James H. O’Grady, granddaughter Caitlin E. Allison and a brother in Germany, Adalbert Ponath. Hilde leaves daughter Kathleen Allison and son in law Richard Allison and two granddaughters Kerry Allison of Brooklyn, New York and Bridget Allison of Somerville, Massachussetts, sister-in-laws Sister M. Alvera O’Grady of Syracuse, New York and Hedl Ponath of Harrieden, Germany, brother in law Red Miesner of Syracuse as well as a number of nieces and nephews in Central New York, Florida and Germany.
Services are planned in Syracuse in the coming days. The North Haven Funeral Home 36 Washington Avenue has been entrusted with local arrangements.
