Margery Ann Strass Scheir passed away on Sunday, November 10th, less than two weeks after enjoying a party for her 93rd birthday.  Daughter of Selma and Walter Strass of Baltimore, Marge practiced social work in the New Haven area for many years. Everyone who met Marge adored her warm laugh, her wit, compassion, intelligence, and capacity for sharp insight. An ardent admirer of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Marge remained intellectually curious and engaged with social welfare issues throughout her life.  Amongst her many loves, which included pistachio ice cream and butterscotch, were Abraham Lincoln, Roger Federer, Ronald Coleman, Johannes Brahms and Jim Beam! Marge is predeceased by her sister, Elaine Strass Meyer, her niece, Susan Meyer, and her husband of fifty years, Julius Scheir, a violinist with whom Marge produced the Starlight Festival, a summer concert series held in New Haven for more than thirty years. Marge will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves her 3 children : Tom Scheir and his wife Laurene Moise of Los Angeles, CA, Peter Scheir and his wife Iuliana of North Haven, CT and Wendy Scheir and her husband Tom Kitchen of Yonkers, NY. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Katie, Daniel and Alexander, and her niece Pat Meyer-Peterson of VA. Marge lived the last years of her life in the loving home and care of her son, Peter, her daughter-in-law, Iuliana, and her grandson, Alexander, who played trains at her feet, gave her great happiness daily.

Visiting hours will be held this Saturday, November 16th, at their North Haven home from 2 to 6 pm. (For the home address, call 203-239-1179). In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Margery's name to the Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org). Please share your memories of Marge in the condolences section below.
