Donald R. Welter, 79, originally of New Haven, passed away on Thursday, May 16th, 2013 in Fort Myers, Florida. Born in New Haven on September 18, 1933, Don was the son of the late Ralph J. and Florence (Paulmann) Welter. Don graduated from New Haven High School and Quinnipiac College and served in the United States Army; he worked for Gerrity Lumber Co. for many years until his retirement and was a past president and treasurer of the Bethel Lions Club. A member of the Family Motor Coach Association, Don enjoyed camping and traveling to Germany. He is survived by daughter Donna Paleveda and her husband Tom of St. Petersburg, FL; son Ron Welter and his wife Lisa of Arlington, MA and son Craig Welter and his wife Jennifer of Ridgefield, CT. In addition he is survived by six grandchildren and dear friend Janet Vesce of North Fort Myers, FL. A private service will be held in North Haven.
I am deeply sadden by Don’s untimely passing. We were both New Haveners and loved talking about our city and growing up during WWII. We both read the same books and always talked about current issues and the problems with the world. We were friends from Junior High, high school and Quinnipiac College.
I shall truly miss him.
