Velma Creech Dell’Oro, 86, formerly of Spring Road, North Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Arden House Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Hamden with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Dino Dell’Oro. Velma was born in Jackson, Kentucky on September 25, 1926; daughter of the late Carl Creech and Amanda Turner McPherson. Velma and her late husband where the owners of Dell’Oro Plaza and Dell’Oro Oil Company. She was a member of the Northeast Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxillary; a parishioner of St. Therese Church where she had taught catacism and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Velma was an avid reader; enjoyed traveling, especially to her husband’s birthplace, Civo, Italy; but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed but her spirit will live on in all who knew and loved her. Mother of Dino “Jack†(Mary) Dell’Oro of Northford, Paula (John) Damm of Plymouth, IN, Linda (Thomas) Battalene of North Haven, Evelyn (Richard) Pantano of Wallingford, Louis R. Dell’Oro of Wallingford, Sylvia Dell’Oro of Northford and Catherine (Kevin) Dell’Oro-Papuga of Wallingford. Also survived by eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, several brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a granddaughter, Amy Lynn Damm.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will follow in St. Therese Church at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
