Louis Gaudio Mele, 73, of North Haven, died suddenly at his home on July 3rd, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Marcia Mele for 48 years. Born on December 28, 1939, in New Haven, he was the son of the late Thomas and Florence Gaudio Mele. In addition to his wife, Louis leaves his loving children, Michelle Mele and Chris Maiocco of North Haven and John and Lisa Mele of Oxford, four grandchildren, Elycia Maiocco of North Haven and Jack, Jenna and Jeremy Mele of Oxford, his brother Thomas Mele of North Haven and many other relatives and friends. Louis graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven in 1957. He then enlisted in the National Guard before beginning his pursuit of a Mathematics Degree at Southern Connecticut State University. He retired from SNET/ATT after a long career with the Company. Louis had many interests and passions, one of which was cars. Over the years, he restored an MG and had a number of project cars. Louis was also a very skilled carpenter, something he learned from his late Uncles, Ben and Louis Gaudio. He put these skills to great use, remodeling his family home in North Haven and helping his children and other family members with numerous projects at their homes. Louis was also an avid boater and spent many happy years on the water with his family and friends. Above all, he adored spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church at 10:00. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org
Thanks for being such an amazing presence in our lives! You were a truly great man!
With great sadness we say goodbye to a special cousin. We will miss your company and sense of humor. Dave will miss the SNET talks you shared. Thank you for being such a wonderful and caring husband to Marci. Lou, may God bless you.
Michelle: My thoughts are with you during this unexpected loss. Your father was a great man, as he unselfishly enriched, supported and shared his life with family and friends. I see him in you and share your sorrow.
God bless.
Joe

We are so sorry for your loss. Lou will be deeply missed by all of us. He is now in heaven with the rest of our families.
To Marci and Family, I just heard today that Lou passed. I am very very sad. Lou was my very first supervisor at Snet. The best supervisor anyone could ever have. He was such a caring, supportive man, and we saw it in how he showed his love for his family. My prayers and heartfelt sympathy are sent to you and the Family. May God keep you and yours in his hands. Lou gave me good advice when I was hired, he said whatever you do put some money in the savings plan for retirement. For that, I will always be grateful for.
