Ronald Eugene Thompson, 79, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Smilow Cancer Hospital of Yale-New Haven Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Maureen Sayers Thompson. Ronald was born in New Haven on March 17, 1934 and raised in New Haven; son of the late William H. and Helen Flanagan Thompson; he attended the former St. Peter’s Grammar School and was a 1951 graduate of Hillhouse High School where he served as class vice president. Ronald retired from SNET after 40 years; was Past President of M.F. Tyler Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers; Past President of the New Haven East Life Members Club of the Telephone Pioneers; Scout Master of the SNET Troup on Liberty Street, New Haven; Cub Scout Leader at the former Mill Road School of North Haven; member of the CT Irish American Community Club; member of the CT Geneological Society; member of the Mayflower Society of North Haven; member of the Sons of Union Veterans Administration Foote Camp; member of the CT Irish American History Round Table; was a long time parishioner of St. Barnabas Church and for twenty years was Administrator and Teacher of their CCD Program. Father of Maura J. Thompson and Patricia A. Thompson both of North Haven, Martha (Robert) Monte of Guilford and Ronald P. Thompson of West Haven. Grandfather of Abigail M. Haggerty, Alexander, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Madelyn Monte. Predeceased by his brothers, John (Jack) Thompson and William Thompson.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm.
