Edward Silvestro, 90, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the MidState Medical Center, Meriden. Edward was born in New Haven on July 17, 1923; son of the late Gasparino and Elizabeth Cuomo Silvestro; he served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WW II and had worked as an Office Controller for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport. Edward is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Albert Silvestro, Sarah Malin, Florence Rice, Frank and Casper Silvestro, Louise Cozzi and a dear friend Henry “Mac†McAvay.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning at 9:30. Family and friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church, North Haven at 10:00. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
To Ed’s Family,
Although I lived for only 4 years as Ed’s next door neighbor in Old Towne 5 years ago, I fondly remember his friendly manner. He was a sweet neighbor (always bringing my recycle bin up to my garage door), a friendly face and a lively chat about this and that around town. I think the antics of my teenage children gave him amusement. I am sad to hear of his passing. I am sorry for your loss. Lisa
