Ruby Janet Nelson Fritzell, 101, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2013: in her words, she was “the last leaf of her generation to fall”. She was the wife of the late Clifford D. Fritzell, Sr. Ruby was born in Naugatuck on February 11, 1912; she was the youngest of nine children to the late Andrew and Anna Nelson. She graduated from Naugatuck High School with honors and attended two years of college; was a strong supporter of her family and took great delight in keeping well informed of their adventures. An avid reader, she loved a good mystery and poetry, both reading and composing. She cherished her garden, loved to decorate for the holidays and was an enthusiastic fan of the UCONN Girls Basketball Team and the Boston Red Sox. Ruby was a gentle, unassuming woman, dearly loved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Lois Top, (Dr. Franklin H. Top Jr.) of Rockville MD.; her sons Clifford D. Fritzell, Jr. of North Branford and James Fritzell (Terese Bigio) of Northford; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; many extended family members and friends. Predeceased by her son Steven A. Fritzell.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue Monday morning at 11:00 with the Rev. Scott Morrow officiating. Family and friends may call from 9:00 am until time of service. Interment will follow in the North Haven Center Cemetery.
