Catherine Piombino Kowalewski 89 of North Haven peacefully and courageously passed away on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut after a short illness. She was born in East Haven, Connecticut on March 21, 1925.  She was the daughter of the late John and Rose (DeSantos) Piombino. She was the beloved wife of Alfred Kowalewski for 63 thoroughly wonderful years. She is also survived by her loving family, her daughter Deborah Morettini and husband Edward, granddaughters Michelle LaPointe and her husband John, Lisa Spooner and her husband Will, and her most precious great grandchildren Paige, Cooper, and Jace LaPointe, and Lilly Spooner who affectionately knew her as “Ma”.  She is also survived by her brother Frank Piombino, and two sisters Dorothy DeCavage and Joan Mastrantonio. She is predeceased by her sisters Mary Cognata, Lillian Mantovani, and Helen Field. She leaves behind her nieces and nephews whose company she cherished and always looked forward to the Piombino Family picnic each September.   She will be remembered for her strong faith and as a parishioner of St. Therese’s Church in North Haven, for being an avid reader, and for her love of telling stories to her family about her youth. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning at 11:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Saturday morning from 9:30 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
