John L. Carney, 67, of North Haven, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Kim Powers Carney. John was born in New Haven on June 13, 1946; son of the late Leonard and Mary Sweeney Carney; served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era having received the Bronze Star; obtained an Associate degree from the former Quinnipiac College; had worked for SNET Company for 37 years until his retirement starting as a Telephone Hooker and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Father of Joshua (Lillian) Carney and Megan Carney. Grandfather of Shayla Carney. Brother of Edward (Elizabeth) Carney and the late William R. Carney.
Family and friends may call at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Ctr. #3, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Kim you and your family are in my thoughts. When I started with s.n.e.t in 1979, John took me under his wing and helped me deal with the test board in New Haven. John was a good friend.

So sad to read this dreadful news in the paper. I recall John's laughter over silly things, and his grand ability to converse at length about anything.It has been my priveledge to have shared countless happy times with him.
