William L. Wells, of Northford Ct, formally of South Harpswell, ME, Hamden, Cheshire and Farmington, Ct passed away quietly Saturday April 30th at Clintonville Manor in North Haven Ct. Bill was born in Hartford CT April 25th 1916 to Harold and Mabel Wells of Farmington Ct. He is predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Elizabeth Voos Wells, brothers Harry and Tom Wells and a granddaughter Robin Hurst of Harpswell ME. Bill leaves his sister Joan Dorman of Bethesda MD, and his children, Gail Buckingham of Bridgewater MA, Nancy Hurst, and Linda Gillis of Harpswell, ME, Candace Harris of Seattle WA, Tom Wells of Setauket NY and William Wells of Northford CT, plus numerous grand and great grandchildren. Bill was a graduate of Farmington High School and Yale University, Timothy Dwight School of Engineering class of 1938. An industrial engineer he served as superintendent of the Scovill Mfg wire mill Waterbury CT and later as Sales Engineer for Riley, Whiteman, Walton Company of Conssehauken PA. He was a past president of the American Society of Lubrication Engineers, ASLE. Bill “Boom Boom” Wells was an avid tennis player, athlete and gracious civic minded gentleman always volunteering his time. He was a past chairman of the Cheshire CT School board, President of the Hamden Hall Fathers Club, President of Wallingford, CT Rotary and its Paul Harris fellow. In addition
he was a member of the Brunswick, ME Rotary Club and a volunteer on the Harpswell Fire and rescue squad. Bill was a member of the Elijah Kellogg Church and served on the Board of Trustees and as a Deacon.
There will be a memorial service at Kellogg Congregational Church Harpswell ME May 14th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Robin Hurst Special Needs Academic Fund c/o Nancy Hurst 1876 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell, ME 04079. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue has been entrusted with his arrangements.
