Peter W. King, Sr., 84, of Hamden passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Lorraine Cervo King. Peter was born in New Haven on September 15, 1930; son of the late Peter W. and Mary Butterfield King; served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War and had worked for the US Postal Service for many years until his retirement. Peter enjoyed ship building, doing puzzles, playing horseshoes and was an avid bowler; known to his fellow bowlers as “silk”. Loving father of Peter W. King, Jr., Patricia (Arnold) Whitman, Paul W. (Karen) King and Philip W. (Lisa) King. Brother of Dorothy Pascale, Peggy DeMarco, Robert (Maryann) King, Donald (Lyvia) King and the late Harriet Evers, Edward and George King. Also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Friday morning at 11:00 with the Rev. Timothy Meehan officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 to 7 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2080 Silas Deane Hwy, 2nd Flr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
Dear Phil, I know right now the hurt associated with the loss of your father is great, but please take comfort in knowing that many people, including myself,f are praying for you and your family during this time of sorrow. Take comfort in the many memories you have of your father. May the God of Peace truly comfort your hearts and spirits, may you feel the compassion of His touch, the warmth of His embrace and be blessed by the presence of His Holy Spirit today and in the days ahead.
