John F. Hogan, 89, formerly of Clintonville Road, North Haven passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Highlands Health Care Center, Cheshire. He was the husband of the late Mary Moriarty Hogan. Mr. Hogan was born in Springfield, MA on June 19, 1921; son of the late Daniel J. and Bridget Moynihan Hogan. A 1939 graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA; he later attended Bay Path College in MA. John served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WW II and later had worked as a Locomotive Engineer for Amtrak for 45 years until his retirement in 1988. John was Past Grand Knight and 4th degree member of the San Salvador Council of the Knights of Columbus; member of the Railroad Anchor Club; member of the American Legion Murray/Reynolds Post #76; the Irish-American Community Center of East Haven; was a parishioner and a former Eucharistic Minister at St. Barnabas Church. Father of Michael J. (Andrea) Hogan of Northford, Daniel J. (Pamela) Hogan of Colchester and Maureen (Paul) Roth of Bethany. Grandfather of Jonathan Hogan, Justin (Susan) Hogan, Christopher (Kailyn) Hogan, Meghan and Eric Roth. Great-grandfather of Charles, Kennedy and Jaylyn Hogan. Brother of Daniel J. (Mariette) Hogan of Ansonia and the late Mary McKernan. Brother-in-law of Lillian Pyne of East Haven and Kathleen McKeon of West Springfield, MA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at the Highlands Health Care Center, Cheshire and the Masonicare Hospice Team for their compassionate and loving care.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue Friday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Thursday (TODAY) from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Cathedral High School Tuition Assistance Fund, 260 Surry Rd., Springfield, MA 01118.
I celebrate the life of John Hogan and am thankful for his gift to each of us who knew him. Much love to his family and the many people he lovingly touched throughout his life.
He is home with his beloved Mary after living a wonderful life and raising a wonderful family. May many happy memories help you through this sad time.
