Frederick H. Sauerbrunn Sr. of Hamden passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Hospital of St. Raphael on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Veronica (Ronnie) Marinan Sauerbrunn. He was born in New Haven on September 7, 1932 to the late Harry and Edna Healy Sauerbrunn. He graduated from Hillhouse High School, Class of 1950, and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a skilled electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 90, for his entire career. He was a parishioner of St. Rita Church in Hamden, and during his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering within his parish community along with his late wife. He was a loving and proud father to his four sons; Frederick H. Sauerbrunn Jr. and his companion Robin Hunt of Wallingford; Robert (Annette) Sauerbrunn of North Haven; Paul Sauerbrunn of Andover, MA, and Carl (Nieves) Sauerbrunn of Avon. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Diane, Andrea, Lieutenant Kenneth, David, Roseanne S. Modzelewski, Kyle, Christina, William, Alexander, and Nicolas Sauerbrunn. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara S. Whalen. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at The Village Green in Wallingford for their care and compassion.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue Saturday morning at 9:00. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Rita Church at 9:30. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm.
