Dorothy Ruggiero Iovanna, 101, formerly of Hamden passed away peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Elim Park Baptist Home, Cheshire with her family at her side. She was the wife the late William J. Iovanna. Born in New Haven on June 30, 1910; daughter of the late Vincent and Esther Gaetano Ruggiero. Dorothy was a member of the Wives of New Haven Rotary. Mother of William (Judith) Iovanna of Branford and Carol (Ernest) DiPietro of Cheshire. Grandmother of William (Karen) Iovanna, Jr. and Christopher (Aiveen) Iovanna. Great-grandmother of Andrew, Austin, Stephen, Alphonso and Ainsley Iovanna. Predeceased by sisters, Jean Vitelli, Lois Forgione, Lillian Cannon and a brother Lawrence Ruggiero. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You†to the staff at Elim Park Baptist Home and Vitas of Middlebury for the excellent care they provided to Dorothy.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Thursday morning at 10:30. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 11:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or the Elim Park Baptist Home Development Dept., 140 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire, CT 06410.
