Chester W. Kosack, 89, of North Haven passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the CT Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of 65 years to Josephine Suchecki Kosack. Born in New Haven on November 18, 1921; a son of the late Jacob and Cornelia Slabasewski Kozuch. Chester attended school in New Haven; served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WWII having served aboard the USS Ellyson and seeing action in the North African Occupation, the Normandy Invasion, the invasion of southern France, the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, Third Fleet Operations against Japan, and Minesweeping Operation Pacific (Tokyo Bay). In recent years, the crew of the USS Ellyson has had bi-annual reunions in different cities across the country. He worked as a linotype operator at Wilson H. Lee in Orange, and Courier citizen in Hamden. Chester was also a member of the Holy name Society at St. Stanislaus Church in New Haven and an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Father of Leanore J. Hammitt of Bolton, William C. Kosack and his wife Dr. Carolyn Morrell Kosack of North Haven. Grandfather of Kimberly Dos Santos and her husband Joseph, Walter J. Kosack and his fiancé Andrea Dingman, and Amanda L. Kosack. Great-grandfather of Joseph, Alexa, and Jacob Dos Santos. Brother of Edward Kosack of East Haven.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue Tuesday morning at 9:30. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Church, New Haven at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
