Alfred James Luciano, 81, of 40 Jerome Avenue, Meriden, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 at the MidState Medical Center, Meriden. He was the husband of Josephine “Pina†Sergi Luciano. Born in New Haven on February 9, 1930; son of the late Ralph and Rose Vertucci Luciano. Al had worked as a District Manager for Metropolitan Insurance for many years until his retirement. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Korean War having served as a Medic at Walter Reed Hospital; he was a member of the Son’s of Italy. Al enjoyed his guitar and singing; was a “devoted and dedicated†New York Yankees fan; was a man with a great jovial personality always telling jokes and making people laugh; he was an affectionate and giving man, and his greatest love was that of his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Father of Donna (Gerald) Cofrancesco of Bethany, Stephen (Denise) Luciano of Clermont, FL, Alfred (Irene) Luciano, Jr. and Carolyn (Edwin) Ledogar all of Brooklyn, CT. Brother of Pasquale (Mary) Luciano of Orange, Frances Aiuda and Theresa Rivellini both of Hamden, Rosemarie (Joseph) Bufano of East Haven, Carol (Ronald) Stone of Cheshire and the late Angelina DiBiaso, Dominic, Ralph and Anthony Luciano. Also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his first wife Marie Luciano.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Thursday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church, North Haven at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.

I am so sorry for your loss. Believe it or not I do remember “Uncle Al” from all of the family parties that Rhonda took me too over the years while I was living in Cheshire. He was a very happy go lucky kind of a man.
