Helena Landino Maturo Scelzo, 93, of 1400 Hartford Turnpike, North Haven, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Scelzo. Born in Hamden on April 7, 1918; daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Coppola Maturo. Helena had worked for the former A.C. Gilberts and later for Circuit Wise. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting; was an avid New York Yankees and UCONN Huskies Women’s Basketball fan. Mother of Robert (Ruth) Scelzo of North Haven and Karen (John) Siwinski of Hamden. Grandmother of R.P. (Tracy) Scelzo, Sue Ann (Charles) Mattison, John (Theresa) Siwinski and Wendy (William) Grieger. Sister of Alice Keeny and the late Clara Purcella and Eva Mattie McCartney. Also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven, Friday morning at 10:00 to attend a mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal services immediately following in Beaverdale Memorial Park. There will be no visiting hours. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue has been entrusted with Mrs. Scelzo’s arrangements.
