Jerry Anthony Matteis, 53, of Kondracki Lane, Wallingford passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 peacefully at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Sheryl McKee Matteis. Born in New Haven on August 30, 1958; son of Joseph A. Matteis, Sr. of Raleigh, NC and the late Joanna Barbara. Jerry received an Associate degree from Eastern University and had worked as Director of Operations for the Knights of Columbus in New Haven from 1986 until leaving due to illness. Jerry was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus; was Treasurer of the T.W.I.S.T. Soccer League for over 15 years, prior was secretary of the WYSL; was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Father of Nicole (Timothy) Larson of Cheshire, Matthew F. (Jacqueline) Matteis of Meriden and Christine Matteis (A.J.) Stark of Wallingford. Brother of Thomas J. Matteis of Wallingford and Joseph A. Matteis, Jr. of Hamden. Papa to his cherished grandchildren Gabriella, Vanessa, Connor, T.J., Tessa, Hanna and Ethan. Son-in-law of Lloyd J. McKee, Sr. of Athens, GA and the late Maureen McKee. Brother-in-law of Lloyd J. McKee, Jr. of Athens, GA and Deborah McKee of Manchester. Grandson-in-law of Frances Farley of Meriden. Also survived by his step-mother Elly Matteis, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his grandparents Pasquale & Jennie Matteis, Gennaro & Susan Barbara.
Family and friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial on Wednesday morning, November 23rd at 10:00 in Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford and are also invited to attend the committal services immediately following in St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Nora Brignola Fund, Yale Brain Tumor Center c/o Dr. Joseph Piepmeier, 333 Cedar St., New Haven, CT 06520. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue has been entrusted with Jerry’s arrangements.

I am very sorry for your loss. Jerry was a nice guy. Although I was a few years older than Jerry, we knew each other from North Haven since we grew up down the street from each other. He and his brother served as altar boys at my wedding in 1971.
