Dr. Barbara J. McMullen, 64, of Old Canterbury Turnpike, Norwich passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at her home. Born in New Haven on September 20, 1947; daughter of the late Robert and Regina G. McLaughlin McMullen. Dr. McMullen received her Bachelors Degree in 1970, her Masters Degree in 1971 both from Southern CT State University and her Doctorate in 1974 from the University of Georgia. After receiving her doctorate she began working for the Hamden Police Department as a Project Director for the Victim/Witness Assistance Services. Shortly thereafter she was an intake psychologist for the DMH at Connecticut State Hospital in Norwich from 1982-1996. She later was employed for DMHAS CT Valley Hospital as a Supervising Clinical Psychologist from 1996 until her retirement in 2003. Barbara had a strong affinity for gardening, nature and wildlife. After retirement she devoted most of her time tending to her seventy-two varieties of rose bushes (her pride and joy), her vegetable garden, and she was an avid bird watcher. Barbara was the fiancé of the late George K. Joslyn who is the father of William, Mary (Prouty) and Margaret (Claflin). She is also survived by her closest friend Mary Mogensen, a niece, two nephews, her great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday morning at 10:00. Family and friends may call from 9:00 am until time of service. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
