Vera Jane Nargi, 83, passed away peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford on Saturday, December 17, 2011 after a short illness. Vera was born in New Haven on January 27, 1928; the daughter of the late Gino and Almerina (Maltempi) Giunti of West Haven. The devoted wife of Michael P. Nargi, and loving mother and grandmother to her daughter Cynthia and her two grandchildren Daniel and Rachel Merriam. Vera also leaves behind a brother, Joseph Giunti (Marjorie) of Hamden, and many beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Vera grew up in West Haven and New Haven, and from an early age demonstrated a love and talent for art. Vera continued her passion for the arts through her participation in the Hamden and Guilford Art Leagues, the Lyme, Essex and Clinton Art Associations, as well as the Madison Art Society. Before Vera’s illness, she volunteered her time to assist with local art shows and assisted other local artists in developing and organizing education programs on art. Vera presented her own artwork at various local art events and also contributed her artwork to certain local nonprofit institutions. Vera was also a past member of the Hamden Women’s Club and served on the board of directors of Meadow Brook III Co-op Association where she resided for over forty years. Vera’s involvement and frequent contributions will be greatly missed.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Tuesday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. The visiting hours will be Monday (TODAY) from 5 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the art league of one’s choice.
