To all her family, especially her sons, James, Kevin and Walter, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I remember your mother from when I was little and your dearly-loved grandmother, Margaret Boyle, brought my brothers and me to visit you. (And of course I knew your Uncle Fred from when I was raising my own children in Fair Haven.) Time has marched on, but you will always seem like members of our family. May the Peace of God be with you, Sylvia
To the family of our friend Rose Mitchell. We extend our sympathies in the loss of Rose. We have many fond memories of Rose and Bill. We spent many enjoyable hours with them at Moose Point Camps and at their home in Florida. These memories stay with us.
Blessings
Dear Family of Rose Mitchell,
I am sitting in Oxford, Connecticut with my mother and father, Frank and Jeannie Purcella. We were reminiscing about people that we knew, and wondering what happened to them. We thought of Rose and I decided to Google her. Unfortunately, that is how we found out about her passing. We did not attend the services because we were unaware of her demise until today, January 22. My parents have known Rose and Bill since they lived in Connecticut in the 1960's. We have many wonderful memories of Rose and Bill in Connecticut as well as Moose Point Camps in Portage, Maine. In addition to spending a lot of time there as guests, I worked there in the summer in the early 80's when I was 17 years old. We have many stories of the never-ending logging road to get to the camp, the crank telephone to call the boat to pick you up, "Ice Out" and cutting ice out of the lake, the dinner bell at MPC which I got to ring to call everyone to dinner, Rose's homemade bread, "Shishkabob" the lamb, the moose that would swim across the lake right up to the point with their offspring, the paddleboats (this was the highlight of my trip), canoeing in Ferguson Pond, fishing for trout in Fish Lake, the low-flying military planes that would buzz the trees and scare the lights out of me, the pontoon planes that I flew in, and the shopping excursions with Rose in Presque Isle. Rose stopped in to my parents house in Oxford, CT a few years ago. I happened to be there with my husband and son. She looked exactly the same as I remembered her. She still had the infectious and hearty laughter, the beautiful smile, and the beautiful silver and turquoise jewelry that was her trademark. She was larger than life and ageless. My family and I will always remember Rose–may she rest in peace.
