Francis J. Janel, 86, formerly of Ansonia until moving to North Haven in 2003, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at the CT Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Marion Daddio Janel. Francis was born in Shelton on July 22, 1925; son of the late John F. and Catherine Mikulak Janel; he had worked as a Tool & Die Maker for the W.E. Bassett Co. (TRIM) of Derby for thirty years until his retirement in 1990. Francis served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at Camp Pickett, Virginia. During his enlistment, scenes from the movie “Battle Circus” starring Humphrey Bogart, Keenan Wynn and June Allyson was being filmed, at which time Francis had met all of them and had taken photographs with them. Francis was a member of the Knights of Columbus; was an avid coin collector; was a New York Mets, UCONN Men’s and Women’s Basketball fan; was a devoted blood donor and volunteer at the American Red Cross/Valley Chapter. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Canada, Mexico, Las Vegas and several other states. Francis had a knack of fixing anything for anyone that was broken or in need repair. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved his family, he will be greatly missed. Father of Elaine Novinsky and her husband Thomas of North Haven. Grandfather of Kevin and Lisa Novinsky. Cousin of Dorothy Fedorowicz and Betty Ann (Allan) Benis. Godfather of Jane (Michael) Golibersuch, Fred (Cindy) Janel, Jr., John (Maritta) Daddio and the late Nancy Lee Daddio. Predeceased by a brother Frederick Janel.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Saturday morning at 10:30. Family and friends may call Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mt. Saint Peter Cemetery, Derby.
