Hidde Edward Bogaert, Sr., 78, of North Haven, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 26, 2012. He was the husband of Barbara Burke Bogaert. Born in Rotterdam, Holland, on March 30, 1933; he was the son of the late Theodore and Louise Hochwald Bogaert. He was a self-employed Graphic Artist and served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Bogaert attended the Paier School of Art in Hamden; worked as the Art Director for the former Winchester Repeating Arms and designed catalogs for various companies before retiring in 1995. After retirement he spent his time painting and going on photo safaris and was an associate member of the Oil Painters of America. In 2002 he won a first place award for his design of a hunting stamp for the Massachusettes Fisheries and Wildlife. He has paintings hanging in a gallery in Beaver Creek, CO, the Woodstone Gallery in Kerrville, TX and in various private homes.
Mr. Bogaert was an avid gardener; photographer and loved to travel. He was an overall great guy and will be greatly missed by all. Father of Debra (Bill) Farrell of NC, Cobey Cross of North Haven, Suzanne (Ken) Recke of NH, Edward (Rebecca) Bogaert Jr. of North Haven and Stephen (Valerie) Bogaert of GA. Brother of John Bogaert and Thea Esposito both of North Haven. Step-son of Harriett Bogaert of West Haven. Step-brother of Richard and William Bogaert of MA, Susana Morales of West Haven. Also survived by twelve grandchildren.
Private funeral services have been entrusted to the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
