Robert G. Wiedenmann, Sr., longtime resident of Northford, CT, passed away on February 27, 2012 at home, surrounded by his family. Bob’s beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia D. Wiedenmann, unexpectedly predeceased him in January of this year. Pat and Bob raised their children, Robert G. Wiedenmann, Jr. and Donna L. Wiedenmann in Northford, where both graduated from local schools. Bob was born in 1940 in New Haven, CT, son of Hans and Kathryn (Delgrego) Wiedenmann. He was employed for 30 years by Praxair, a division of Union Carbide, in North Haven. After retirement from Praxair, Bob was actively involved in Sunwood Development Corp with is son, Robert, Jr. and wife Judy of Wallingford. He invested in real estate in Peoria, AZ, near Phoenix, where he and Pat enjoyed many happy months each year. They truly appreciated their cabin in Halifax, Vermont, passing on their love of a simple, outdoor New England lifestyle to their grandsons, Jason and Quintin Cann of Northford and Kyle Wiedenmann of Wallingford. Granddaughters Amy Wiedenmann of Wallingford and Aubrey Cann Schoenfield (Nick) of Los Angeles learned life lessons of hard work, academic achievement and family togetherness from both of their devoted grandparents. A long-standing member of NOFA (Northeastern Organic Farmers Association), Bob was a committed organic gardener, who relished the challenge of Southwestern agriculture once he and Pat discovered Arizona. A conservationist and frugal consumer by nature, Bob was for many years a practicing vegetarian who used the earth’s resources lightly and left the world a better place for the rest of us. He was also a member of the Home Builders Association of New Haven County. Bob is survived by his sister Beverly and her husband Bill Colrus of Hamden, CT, brother-in-law Fredrick Marvin Dingle and his wife Pam Sulkosky of Peoria, AZ, sisters-inlaw Marcia Dingle of Bishopville, SC and Louise Beach and her husband Tim of Prospect, CT and Donna’s fiance Joseph DeFrancesco. The family would like to give a special thank you to Addo Nyantakyi, Bob’s in-home caregiver for the past few months. His compassionate care will always be appreciated. Family and friends may call at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: CT Hospice, 110 Barnes Road, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to New Haven County 4-H Advisory Committee, Care of New Haven County Extension Center, 305 Skiff Street, North Haven, CT 06473. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family
What a fine man Bob was. I met him in the 1960s working with him at Union Carbide. Even after all these years Bob was a guy you did not forget. I’ll bet I have not seen him in 15 years, but he was never too far out of mind. We are all poorer for the loss of this very nice man.
Our deepest sympathy for the family of Bob Wiedenmann. May wonderful memories of his life comfort and console you.
