Retired New Haven Firefighter John M. Blasiak, 70, of 562 Baldwin Avenue, Meriden formerly a 27 year resident of Evergreen Avenue, Hamden, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Yale–New Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara J. Cook Blasiak. Born in New Haven on October 16, 1941; son of the late Maryon J. and Frances M. Orzolek Blasiak; he was a New Haven Firefighter for 30 years, later he worked as a driver for Minore Poultry and a driver for the Connecticut Handi-Van. John had served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War; was a devoted member of the Liberty Community Church of North Haven; enjoyed collecting model trains and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. John enjoyed all the comfort and camaraderie from all his kind neighbors and friends on Baldwin Avenue, but most importantly was the joy and love given to him by his grandchildren. Father of Krista (Chris) Cossaboom, Regina (Troy) Jones all of Hamden, and Kelley Cameron Dugay of New Haven. Grandfather of Kayla Cossaboom, Zachary Jones and Christian Dugay. Brother of Joseph (Suzanne) Blasiak of North Haven, Rosemary Blasiak of New Haven, Helen (Edward) Lewandoski of East Haven. Also survived by nieces, nephews, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning at 10:30. Funeral Services will be conducted in the Liberty Community Church, 540 Washington Avenue, North Haven at 11:00. Interment will full military honors will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden. The visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 pm. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
