Gertrude H. Lips Barra, 94 of New Haven, passed away on Thursday April 7, 2016 at the Mary Wade Home, New Haven. She was the wife of the late Dominick Barra. Gertrude was born in Guilford on March 9, 1922; daughter of the late Francis and Gertrude Hefty Lips. She enjoyed and was wonderful doing needle work. Mother of Robert M. (Catherine) Barra, Elizabeth Barra, Donna (Jeff) Hardy and the late Jean Barra. Grandmother of BreAnna (Stephen) Ryegel, Michael Barra, Tracy (Brian) Penney, Jenifer (Jake) Riley, Dominic and Marla Crook, Jillian Crook, Laura (Eric) Rutkowski, Jeanna and Donald Crook. Step-Mother of Raymond Barra, Jr., and James (Teddi) Barra. Step-Grandmother of Robert, Emily and Abby Hardy, Kim (Scott) Farrington, Dina (Louis) Donofrio, Kathy (Paul) Blodgett, Christopher McNulty, Michele (Adam) Burch and James (Melissa) Barra. Sister of John (Eleanor) Lips and the late Margaret Spencer, June Rice, Mildred Frieberg, Francis and George Lips. Also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband Raymond Barra, Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 10:00. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Wade Home, 118 Clinton Avenue New Haven, CT 06513.

Thank you for everything you taught me. I remember going through a book and picking out a picture, you ironing it onto a cloth and then sewing the design. Never will I find another scrubbie as awesome as yours. I can never forget you standing in the doorway waving bye until we pulled out of your driveway. Love you forever. Have fun up there.
