Philip J. Bjornberg, 84, of 60 Main Street, Deep River, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Middlesex Hospital, Middletown. Born in North Haven on September 6, 1929; son of the late Harry John and Frances Amanda Blakeslee Bjornberg. Philip had grown up in North Haven; graduated from Center School; worked as a road driver for Perkins Trucking for 22 years until his retirement and was a member of the Teamsters Local #406. He served his country faithfully in the Connecticut Army National Guard, the US Navy during the Korean War and later in the US Marine Corp. A professional baseball player in his earlier years; he played in the Wallingford Twilight League; Lyman Hall Baseball; played for the Brooklyn Dodgers minor league for three years, the All Navy Baseball League and was a member of the Professional Baseball Players Association. Father of Phyllis (Rev. Timothy) Haut of Deep River, Ana (Mark) Sanford of Cheriton, VA, Martha Ellen (Cole Prevost) Bjornberg of Old Saybrook, Philip (Susan) Bjornberg, Jr. of No. Stonington, Brian Bjornberg of Deep River. Brother of Marilyn Bullis  of Madison,  Linda Geary of Ridgefield, Carol Coleman of Sonoma, CA, Ana Kristine Bjornberg of Arizona and, Roger and Dana Bjornberg both of Woodbury and the late Doris Harper,  Eric and Donald Bjornberg. Also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchild. Also survived by a dear and loyal companion of over 30 years, Pearl Lukas of East Hartford.

Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, Saturday morning at 10:00 with his son-in-law the Rev. Timothy Haut officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the North Haven Center Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 pm.
