Vincent Scafariello, Sr., 90, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2015 at the St. Raphael campus/Yale-New Haven Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Tillie Maisano Scafariello, they would have been married 67 years on Sept. 11th. Known to many as “The Bear”, “Pop” or “Scaff”, Vincent was born in New Haven on November 2, 1924; son of the late Augustino and Carmela Perito Scafariello; he served his country faithfully as a Medic in the US Army in England during WW II. Vincent had worked for Pratt & Whitney for over 35 years and later a crossing guard at Montowese Elementary School. He was a member of the AMVETS, was an avid Boston Red Sox and UCONN Huskies Basketball fan and loved to watch the news especially MSNBC. Loving father of Vincent Scafariello, Jr. and Donna Marie Scafariello. Adoring grandfather of Kelly Anne Scafariello. Brother of Dolores Bianchi, Rita Bonito, Salvatore Scafariello and the late Louise Scafariello, Florence Storlazzi, Marion Bianchi, Carmel Civitello, Antoinette Scafariello, John Scafariello, Sr. and Anthony Scafariello. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by his nephew Salvatore Scafariello, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Thursday morning at 11:00. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226 or the Alzheimers Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
