Edward J. Foulds, born April 4, 1923 in Stamford, CT, to Charles E. Foulds and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 in Cheshire, CT after a ten-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a graduate of Stamford High School, class of 1940 and was Vice President of his Senior Class. He was a graduate of the School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia and the American Institute of Banking. Mr. Foulds was a Vice President at Constitution Federal Savings with whom he was employed for 26 years (1956-1982). He managed offices in Stamford, New Canaan and Ridgefield. Mr. Foulds served in the US Army Air Force from 1942-45, seeing heavy action as a member of the 100th Bomber Group of the Eighth Air Force. Based in England, Staff Sergeant Foulds manned the position of ball turret gunner (belly gunner) in a B-17, having flown 32 daylight-bombing missions to targets in Nazi Germany. He participated in the first daylight bombing of Berlin as well as the June 6, 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy. His Decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, European Theatre Ribbon with two Battle Stars, and a Presidential Citation. Ed was an avid golfer who played into his mid-80’s. He lived his retirement years in Bermuda Run, NC where he enjoyed not only golf but is active participation in the Clemmons Presbyterian Church community. Mr. Foulds was predeceased by his devoted wife of 62 years, Gladys Mae Almond. He is Survived by his daughter, Marcia A. Foulds of East Haven, CT, son John E. Foulds (Lorelle) of Ridgefield, CT, grandchildren Alison M. Burtraw, David R. Burtraw, Jennifer B. Aguzzi, John F. Foulds, Michael A. Foulds, Molly R. Foulds, Elizabeth L. Foulds and five great grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind his brother Robert T. Foulds of Punta Gorda, FL.
There will be a memorial celebration of Mr. Foulds’ life at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the North Haven Congregational Church, 28 Church Street, North Haven, CT. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Clemmons Presbyterian Church, 3930 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012, or to Michael J.
