Nicholas F. D’Errico III, 64, of 113 Scrub Oak Road, North Haven passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the husband of Florence Vanacore D’Errico. Nick was born in New Haven on January 21, 1948; son of the late Nicholas F. D’Errico, Jr. and Jean Russo D’Errico. His passions and hobbies crossed a wide and adventurous spectrum. From being an avid corkscrew collector and author of “American Corkscrew Patents 1921-1992†in 1993, and his love for fine wines and cigars, he was also a member of the North Haven Historical Society. In addition, and most dearest to his heart, he was the President of the International Sand Collectors Society (ISCS), a member of the Connecticut Historical Automobile Society (CHAS), and since the age of 16, was a member of the Rolls Royce Owner’s Club, owning three of the cars throughout his life. Father of Nicholas F. D’Errico IV and his fiancé Jennifer Melendez.
Family and friends may call at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday, May 29th from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in All Saints Cemetery.
While I never met Nick in person, I feel that we were friends. As the president and newsletter writer for the International Sand Collector’s Society, we corresponded innumerable times fro decades. He will be dearly missed. I am in Alaska, too far away to do what I would like to do, to pour some sand on his grave in fond memory of him. My deepest condolences to his family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. As long as we think about, speak about and laugh about our moments with Nick, he will always be near us.
There are no words to express my saddness on the passing of cousin Butchie as we would fondly call him. It had been years since we had seen each other. We met up last year at his Aunt Judy’s (my mother’s) funeral. We are so sorry for your loss we will keep you all in our prayers during this diffcult time. Love Cindy (Wetherbee) Finch.
I’m sorry for your loss Florence and Nick.
To the most interesting cousin you’ll be missed. I enjoyed stopping by and talking about the new sands he just got and working with the different people in his club.
The conversations were never boring.
