Cynthia Barnes, 101, of the Elim Park Baptist Home, Cheshire, formerly of North Haven passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at her residence. Born in North Haven on July 11, 1910, the only child of Ella and Arthur Barnes. A graduate from the Normal School, she began a 40 year teaching career at Center School, North Haven. She later went back to school and received her B.S. degree from State Teachers’ College (now known as Southern CT State University). She later attended classes toward getting her Masters. She retired in 1970 and later became very active at the Montowese Baptist Church where she chaired many suppers, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She worked diligently for the missions board and was the White Cross coordinator for many years for Woman’s Society (now ABWM).
Friends are invited to attend a graveside funeral service on Monday morning at 11:00 in the Montowese Cemetery, Quinnipiac Ave., North Haven with the Pastor J.P. Morgan officiating. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montowese Baptist Church, 101 Quinnipiac Ave., North Haven, CT 06473. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue has been entrusted with her arrangements.
