Heaven has a new angel, Our beloved Bestemor, Edel Jensen Silengo a gentle soul, of 401 Clintonville Road, North Haven, passed away peacefully at home after and extraordinary 96 years of life. She was the beloved wife of the late Aldo (Sam) Silengo for 72 years. Born in Kristiansand, Norway on December 13, 1915; daughter of the late Karl and Kristine Birkeland Jensen. Edel had worked in the North Haven High School cafeteria for 25 years. She left many fond memories especially her beautiful smile; her “great” Thanksgiving dinners and Memorial Day parties. Mother of William H. (Elaine) Silengo and Thomas (Suzanne) Silengo of North Haven, John E. Silengo of White Pine, TN, and Mary (Barry) Sheldon of Lyme. Cherished Grandmother of Debra (Michael) Finoia, William (Cynthia) Silengo Jr., Michael (Nancy) Silengo, Matthew Silengo, and Brian Silengo and nine great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Predeceased by five sisters, Elna Holtan, Christine Brent, Karla Ekbladh, Doris Ardo, Katie Andrewsen and a brother Ralph Jensen. The family extends their sincerest appreciation to Sherrill Goswell of Lifetime Care at Home ( affiliate of VNA Community Healthcare ) for the care she gave Mom over the last several months that allowed Mom to stay at home until her passing.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Friday morning at 10:30. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning from 8:30 to 10:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the North Haven Center Cemetery.
