William T. Mathews, 72, of North Haven, formerly of East Haven for many years passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford. Childhood sweethearts since age 13, he was the beloved husband of Carol DiMartino Mathews for 51 years. Bill was born in New Haven on August 09, 1943; son of the late Edward and Helen Platt Mathews, Sr; had worked as a truck driver for Harrington, Inc. and Yates, Inc. and later worked for CHR Industries where he was Union President of the Local #231 for the United Rubber Workers of America . Bill enjoyed the water, swimming and fishing, painting, Disney World, horseback riding, flying airplanes, loved going to Daytona Beach and was a member of the 1st Independent Club, New Haven. Special thank you to Doctors Honig and Hesse, and to his beloved Dr. Julia Shi and Susan Henry. Father of Cheryl Marshall. Brother of James Mathews and the late Ronald, Raymond and Edward Mathews, Jr. He loved his grand dogs especially Shelby the “Trouble Maker”. Predeceased by his granddaughters Kylie Ann and Kaitlyn Nicole, and his dog Toto.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday morning, March 8th at 11:00 in St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven. At Bill’s request there will be no visiting hours. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Billy's passing. I am equally sorry I cannot be there for the service and to be with you. Please know I am praying and thinking of about you both.
