Bernice Lyke Bassett, 75, of North Haven, formerly of West Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving daughter by her side. Bernice was born in New Haven on June 30, 1937; was the daughter of the late John and Claire Weinberg Lyke; had worked for Northeast Electronics for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the West Haven Irish American Club; an avid reader and loved her two cats Dusty and Me Too. Mother of Rick (Jennifer) Bassett of North Haven, Daniel (Myrna) Bassett of Ashford and Sherri (David) Hicks of New Haven. Grandmother of Katie, Julie, Adam, Desiree, Justin and Jessica Bassett. Sister of Lorraine (Ira) Hayden of North Haven, Jack (Linda) Lyke of Northford and the late George Lyke & Eugene (Jr.) Lyke. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday evening, July 30, 2012, at 7:00 with the Rev. Matthew Lincoln officiating . Family and friends may call from 4:00 until time of service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Haven Rotary Club, P.O. Box 202. North Haven, CT 06473 which will be donated to The Polar Plunge (started by Bernice’s son Rick when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer).
Aunt Bernice was a strong woman who essentially raised three kids on her own in a generation where that was the exception, not he rule. I am thankful I was able to spend some quality time with her on two occasions over the last few months. She will be missed by all who loved her.

This is such a sad and shocking loss of a wonderful person and a friend.It has been such a joy and inspiration to know her and her family. I cannot even think of how difficult this is on her family to lose someone so dear and close as her.It was always great to see her in Dan’s home and at Desiree’s shows! She will be so deeply missed by me and so many. They will love her in Heaven!

I am so sorry for your Mom’s passing. She was a great friend and a wonderful person. We had many memories from our young years and again in our old years. I will never forget her. I will keep her in my prayers.

Sorry to hear that Bernice passed away, I kathleen (Kat) have met her only a couple of times many years ago, very nice woman, I have known Dan for many years, May she rest in Peace. My condolences to everyone.
