Sophie Wilczynski Oboyski, 100, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Oboyski. Sophie was born in New Haven on April 26, 1914; daughter of the late Waclow and Magdalena Pietrus Wilczynski; had worked for the former Federal Paperboard and later as an Executive Secretary for Simkins Industries until her retirement. She was a member of the Polish Falcons, New Haven where she taught gymnastics, enjoyed bingo and duck pin bowling. Mother of Frank X. Oboyski and his wife Doreen Larson-Oboyski, and the late Carol Ann Oboyski. Predeceased by her siblings, Vera Bialobrceski, Loretta Boguski, Helen Zarnowski and Viola Wilczynski. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Thursday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Wednesday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Frankie, I will remember your mom in my prayers. She did a great job raising you and you were a really good son in return.
Remembering Sophie with a smile…the mold was broken when The Lord made her. Sophie worked for me at Word Works for a number of years…today's youth should learn from her dedication, loyalty and skills. My condolences to you.
