Albert “Shiney” Melillo, 85, of North Haven passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Montowese Health and Rehab Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hamden on July 17, 1928; son of the late Ferdinando and Concetta Merola Melillo. He served his country faithfully in the US Army having received the Purple Heart for his courageous service during the Korean War. He had worked as an operating engineer for Fusco Corporation for 20 years, and later for his nephew Fred Melillo at Elite Transport until his retirement. He was a member of the Prihillian Club of North Haven and the Operating Engineers Local #478. Father of Wendy (Richard) Melillo Farrill and Gary Melillo. Grandfather of Brett Melillo and Alysia Melillo and Grant and Bryson Farrill. Brother of William Melillo, Robert Melillo and the late Dominic Melillo, Angelo “Miles” Melillo, George Melillo, Mary Ferrari, Carmel Gandolfi, Frederick Melillo and Andrew Melillo, Sr. Also survived by his former wife Josephine Chappelle and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, I-91 Tech Ctr. #3, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
I just heard about Shiney 15 minutes ago from my mother. Please accept my sincerest condolences. I live in Ellington, CT now and do not get the New Haven area news. My prayers will be for Shiney and you, his family, on this day.

My condolences to the entire Melillo family for therir loss.I remember the days when I was a kid of going up to "the farm" to go horseback riding and play hockey on their rink. Shiney was always smiling. Great memories. Rest in peace.
