Marianne Ballas Smith, 73, of Northford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to Thomas C. Smith. Marianne was born in New Haven on July 15, 1942; daughter of the late Benedict M. and Christina Murphy Ballas. She was a member of the Northford Volunteer Fire Department Company #2 Ladies Auxiliary and a long time parishioner of St. Monica Church. Mother of Kristin Bailey (Mark), Debra Stone (Guy) and the late Thomas C. Smith, Jr. Grandmother of Riley, Liam and Makenna Stone, and Katelyn Bailey. Sister of Larry Ballas.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Monica Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the Northford Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 7 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the CT Hospice Inc., 100 Double Beach Road Branford, CT 06405.

Maryann was such a special person we are so happy to have the little time we had to spend with her. She will be greatly missed not only by family but by the many friends she had throughout her life. Rest in Peace.
Marianne was a friend, co-parent[Debra and Guy]and we were co-grandmother's together of Riley,Liam and Makenna. we talked about our familes and grandchildren and lots more! I shall miss her and her pretty smile. Love Mary

Tom, Kristin, Debbie & family, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Marianne. She was a lovely lady and I would always see her in the back row at St. Monica's Church on Sunday, where where we would give each other a smile. That's how I will always remember her.
