Joseph E. Merola, 73, of East Haven, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the husband of 53 years to Doreen (DeMatteo) Merola. He was born in New Haven on November 30, 1938; son of the late Fiore and Louise (Acampora) Merola. Joseph worked for Sikorsky Aircraft for over forty years retiring as a Manufacturing Engineer and at the time of his death he was working for Butler America. Joseph was a former youth baseball coach and past president of the Foxon Recreation League and a past recipient of their “Man of The Year†award. Father of Hope M. (Kevin) Dacey and Dyan Merola all of East Haven, Joseph E. (Sandra) Merola, Jr. of Westbrook, Guy A. and Kai A. Merola both of East Haven. Brother of Marie Pascale of West Haven, Peter P. (Millie) Merola of West Haven and Robert R. Merola of East Haven. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Danielle R. and Brian Joseph Dacey, Jamie and Joseph Merola, many nieces and nephews.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday morning at 10:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church, North Haven at 11:00. Entombment will follow in the All Saints Mausoleum. The visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 pm.
