Peter Ernest Dell’Oro, 89, of North Haven, formally of the Montowese section, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary Kay Crocker Dell’Oro.  Peter was born in New Haven on January 7, 1926; son of the late Joseph and Rose Paganetti Dell’Oro. As a youth he would hunt and trap muskrats with his brothers along the creeks and streams in the area. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy and served his country faithfully during WWII. For most of his service he was stationed in Puerto Rico where among other duties he served as a tail gunner for torpedo bombers that patrolled the US coast in search of enemy submarines. He was awarded the Air Gunnery Insignia, The American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. He worked as a salesman at P. Lorillard Co. for over 30 years, he then got his real estate license and worked for Beazley Relators in North Haven. When he finally fully retired he devoted his life to taking care of his wife and brother Bill through their difficult health issues. In his spare time he loved to refinish furniture and tend to his fruit trees. Peter was a hardworking frugal man who strived to do his best in all aspects of life. He also had a very funny sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. Anyone who met him liked him which was a trait that enabled him to be very successful salesman. He will be missed by all. Father of Peter (Caron Lanouette) Delloro and the late Deborah Dell’Oro Izzo. Grandfather of Carter & Derick Delloro, Jaclyn & Joseph Izzo. Great-grandfather of Kaylee Sullivan. Uncle of Cecilia (Stan Figura) Clarke, Margaret DiBattista, Terrence (Dora) Clarke. Predeceased by his siblings, Julius & William Dell’Oro and Mary Clarke. Brother-in-law of Terry Clarke. Also survived by several great nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to all who helped care for Peter over the last few years including his granddaughter Jackie and neighbors Mary & Tito Cruz and caregiver Annie Poole Lotto.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday morning at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 pm.
