Katherine Frances Guidone, 96 of North Haven passed away peacefully at home at the break of dawn on Friday, December 7, 2012 with her beloved son by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Guidone and for 70 years they were known as Joe and Kaye. She was born in New Haven on February 6, 1916 and was the daughter of the late Fiorentino and Josephine (Landino) Marra. Katherine was predeceased by her brothers Pasquale, Joseph, Fred and Francis (Franny) Marra and her sisters Anna D’Onofrio, Carmel Pedone, and Helen Marlowe. Katherine’s joy was her two children Joyce (Kevin) Tierney of North Branford, and Dr. Leonard Guidone of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her grandchildren, Kirsten (Christopher) Cone of Horse Shoe, NC, Cameron (Sandra) Tierney of Austin, TX, and Brandon (Katy) Tierney of Marco Island, FL. will always cherish their “Grammyâ€. Katherine was great-grandmother to Knox, Colton, Zachary, Sloane, and Greyson. She was a graduate of Commercial High School, Class of 1935. After raising her family, Katherine, following her passion for books and reading, secured her position at the North Haven Library where she was employed for 25 years. Katherine will always be remembered by her family and friends for her positive outlook on life, her kindness and generosity of heart, and her wit. She enjoyed good food, gardens and flowers, music, dancing and song, her hair fully coifft and a new pair of shoes. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care and love she received from her caregiver, Luisa, and Masonicare Health Center as well as Masonicare Home Health and Hospice.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Wednesday morning at 10:30. Family and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 11:00. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Masonicare Health Center, 22 Masonic Avenue, PO Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
