Arthur Tramontano, 83, of North Haven, left this life on Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 after a long illness he courageously battled. He was surrounded by his loving family at his passing. Arthur was a dedicated family man and a decorated war hero, receiving the Purple Heart, the United Nations Service Medal, 2-Star Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation for his bravery and service to his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. Arthur was employed at U.S. Motors; owned the Beachcomber Restaurant in West Haven, the V.I.P. Restaurant in Hamden and retired as the Superintendant of Public Works for the Town of North Haven. Arthur was a very active member of the Libero Pensiero Society in Wallingford where he will be missed dearly; belonged to the V.F.W. Post #591; the American Legion Murray Reynolds Post #76 and was a lifelong member of the Annex Y.M.A. in New Haven. He was an avid fan of both the New York Yankees and the New York Giants; was a league bowler in Hamden; a league softball player in North Haven for many years and enjoyed his trips to the casino. Arthur leaves behind his two beloved daughters, Laura and Lynne, as he joins the love of his life, Lorraine in eternal rest. Brother of Salvatore Tramontano of Port Charlotte, FL, Richard (Rae) Tramontano of New Haven, Lorraine Appi of East Haven and the late Raymond Tramontano. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Arthur was born on November 12, 1929 in New Haven and was the son of the late Arthur and Marie O’Connell Tramontano.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Thursday morning, Jan. 3rd at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 2nd from 4 to 8 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
