Christopher John Sackett, 49, passed away early Thursday morning, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved son of Ann Mayk Sackett and the late Charles L. Sackett; brother to Brian Sackett and his late wife, Christine, Bridget Sackett and her boyfriend Richard Kijewski, Gregory Sackett and his wife, Rachel, Cheryl McGovern and her boyfriend Trenton Anderson, Patrick Sackett and honorary brother Peter Krenisky and his wife, Terri. He was predeceased by brother, Michael Sackett. He is uncle to Christine Kopcyk and her husband Thomas Kopcyk, Justin McGovern, Taylor Sackett, Sean Sackett and Aiden Sackett. He was predeceased by niece Julia McGovern and nephew Zachary McGovern. Christopher was an extremely talented musician. Those who knew him will always remember him with a guitar in hand. In addition to his passion for music, Christopher loved working with computers and was gifted with the ability to troubleshoot any IT problem presented to him. After working for Stop and Shop distribution center for many years, Christopher left the company and returned to school where he received his Associate’s degree in IT and Networking from the University of Phoenix in 2010. While completing his degree, Christopher began working for the New Haven school system in their IT department. He spent the last few years of his life in a position which allowed him to combine both his passion for music with his love for computers as the IT Coordinator for the Co-Operative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven. Christopher loved working with the faculty and staff in the system, but most of all, he cherished working with the students. He expressed a desire to continue his education in order to earn a teaching certificate. Family and friends will remember Christopher for his kind, giving heart and gentle spirit. He was always eager to help out someone in need of computer assistance, often receiving phone calls by friends and family referring to him as “tech support”. Even during his last few days with us, Christopher wanted to try to finish working on several computers friends and loved ones had given him to fix. He loved spending time with his friends and family, whether it was out watching a band, hiking up Sleeping Giant, or hanging out at a picnic. While there may be a void in the lives of those who knew him, it will be filled with many, great memories.
A wake will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3-6pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. In lieu of flowers, his family, co-workers and friends at the Co-Operative Arts and Humanities High School have created the Christopher Sackett Arts and Music Scholarship. Donations may be mailed to the Christopher Sackett Arts and Humanities Scholarship Fund at 24 West Main Street, Suite 409, Clinton, CT 06413. The family extends an invitation to a reception following the wake.
