Karl E. Helbig, 74, of Wallingford passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Karl was born in New Haven, CT on August 17, 1938, the son of the late Edward and Eleanor Dahlberg Helbig. He was the best friend and partner of Elizabeth Zipoli Helbig with whom he had three children. Karl was the owner and operator of Evergreen Turf Irrigation for over fifty years until his retirement. He lived his entire life in North Haven before moving to Wallingford in 1994 and was a member and altar server at St. John’s Episcopal Church. He was an avid hockey fan, loved the Florida Gators and enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends, particularly James Gallo of North Haven. He is survived by his sister Karen (John) Whiteside of Greensboro, NC, his children Karl (Jenn) Helbig, Jr. of Belmont, MA, Thomas (Gaetana) Helbig of Middlefield and Kristen (Matthew) Archibald of Wallingford and eight grandchildren Kayleigh (Brian) Devlin, Ryan, Emily, Evan, Olivia, Carmel and Joshua Helbig and Luke Archibald who will greatly miss their Pop-Pop. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3 Trumbull Pl, North Haven on Tuesday, January 29 at 11:00am. There will be no visiting hours and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr, Wallingford, CT 06492.
