John Theodore Goshorn, 88, of Branford, formerly of North Carolina, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at the VAMC, West Haven. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Hill Goshorn. John was born in Blairs Mills, PA on May 13, 1924; son of the late Ulysses Grant Goshorn and Bessie College Goshorn; had served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean War having received the American Theater, Victory, Korean Service Medals and the Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia Clasp. Father of Janet L. Marotta and her husband Ed of Branford and the late Jeanne G. Boliek. Grandfather of Robert and Ed Marotta, Jr. Great-Grandfather of John Marquis. Predeceased by eight siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Friday morning at 11:00. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service. Please omit flowers and all contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
I had the honor of being John’s guardian on an Honor Air flight to Washington, D.C. in May of 2011. As a veteran of WWII and the Korean war, John thoroughly enjoyed visiting the memorials dedicated to those conflicts. John was a true gentleman, and a good man. John shared a lot of his wartime experiences with me and showed me a lot of his pictures. He spoke very movingly of his wife, girls and grandkids. I wish I could have spent more time with John. May he rest in peace.
