Marian Irene Sablitz Goering passed away Sunday August 7, 2016. She was born March 3, 1929 in Hartford, CT. Eldest daughter of George and Estelle (Warnarski) Sablitz, she was predeceased by her parents, husband Russell, brother Donald Sablitz, and sister, Evelyn Sablitz Smith. She is survived by brother Leonard Sablitz (Barbara), daughters Pamela Pierson (Richard), Susan Cox (Robert), grandchildren Jessica Nevarez (Joel), Carin Hurst and great grandson Hunter Nevarez. Also nieces and nephews Karl, Kurt, Cinda, Torrie, Lynn and Paul. After graduation from Hamden High School, in 1946, Marian went to work as a bookkeeper at the United Illuminating Company in New Haven, where she would meet her husband, Russell. They married in 1949 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven and honeymooned on Cape Cod, a place they would return every summer until Russell passed away in 1997. The ocean, sand and salt air had a wonderful effect on Marian and held many happy memories.  Marian loved the hamburgers at Louis Lunch, fresh garden vegetables, knitting, reading and a sunny day. The newlyweds moved to North Haven and became active members in St. John’s Episcopal Church. In 1955 they moved to Hamden where the girls would attend school and they would get in involved in the start of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Marian stayed home and raised Pam and Sue, taking roles in PTA and Girl Scout leadership. She eventually got back into bookkeeping for Planned Parenthood of New Haven. Marian moved to her beautiful cottage at Ashlar Retirement Community in in 2005 where she remained until her death.

Memorial Service will be held at North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Ashlar Charitable Foundation or a Veteran's Charity of your choice.
